Volunteer opportunities

People of all ages and backgrounds volunteer at Peconic Bay Medical Center. We offer flexible scheduling to accommodate teens, homemakers, working adults and retirees. Volunteers donate their time, talents and energyall to make a difference in patients lives.

As a volunteer, you'll become a vital part of our team, supporting our commitment to excellent care while experiencing the reward of helping others. Your compassion and dedication enhance our services, fostering a welcoming environment and freeing up our professional staff to devote even more time to caring for patients.

Volunteer activities include:

  • Emergency department ambassadors

Volunteers in our emergency department (ED) provide an important service by being compassionate liaisons between those receiving care in our ED and medical staff, and their family and loved ones who are waiting for them. They may also assist staff with simple clerical tasks and errands. ED ambassador program applications are currently open!

  • Pastoral care

Peconic Bay Medical Center's pastoral care program strives to meet the various spiritual and religious needs of our patients. Administered by our board-certified chaplain, our program serves all denominations and faiths, including people who are not affiliated with any faith.

Ordained clergy are on premises most days, and on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Our chaplain or one of our pastoral care volunteers will be happy to visit you and, if you wish, contact your clergy or members of your congregation.

Bibles, prayer cards, inspirational booklets and support services are available on request. Prayer and chapel services are held in our chapel, and accommodations for larger assemblages are provided. A schedule of services is available on request.

    • Making our mission possible: The Auxiliary Board is committed to serving the entire medical center community, fostering quality, compassionate and comprehensive care through hands-on volunteering and innovative fundraising. Board members are selected through an election process, as determined by the Auxiliary by-law.
    • How we work with the community: Auxiliary Board members proudly serve as ambassadors between the hospital and the community. The board increases community awareness of hospital services through local events, newsletters, announcements and communications with friends, neighbors and colleagues. We aim to be the voice of the communities served by Peconic Bay Medical Center and always welcome new ideas for involvement.
    • How we make it all happen: The Auxiliary Board members work hard to promote Peconic Bay Medical Center through increased community awareness and vital fundraising initiatives. We organize large and small events, operate the gift shop within the hospital, organize raffles and make crafts, among many other activities throughout the year.
