Specialists in caring
Volunteers have been a part of the Mather Hospital family since 1958. In that time, volunteers have contributed many thousands of hours of service for the benefit of our patients, staff and visitors.
Become a member of our hospital family
Volunteers help provide the special touch that can make a patient's stay from good to great. Volunteer assignments include assisting in patient care areas, escorting patients and visitors to their destinations, and working in the Gift and Thrift Shops. At Mather, all volunteers receive a meal allowance per shift in Kuffner's Cafe.
Who can volunteer?
The minimum age to become a volunteer at Mather is 15. There is no maximum age limit as long as the individual is effectively able to work on selected assignments.
Volunteer requirements
At Mather Hospital, volunteers are expected to give at least one weekly four-hour shift. Volunteers are required to always wear their provided hospital uniforms and identification badgesduring their volunteer shift.
To become a volunteer
All volunteers are required to have medical clearance by their primary care physician, updated immunizations, and tuberculosis screening. After applying, volunteer applicants will be contacted by the Director of Volunteers to arrange a virtual interview. Volunteer assignments are designed, as much as possible, to match the interests of the volunteer and meet the needs of our patient population. Volunteers are subject to a 90-minute hospital orientation which reviews standard safety and infection prevention protocols, and patient experience commitments.
