Adult and junior volunteers
Volunteers play an integral role at Staten Island University Hospital. We are looking for volunteers who are compassionate, professional, dedicated and reliablewhether youre a teenager preparing for your future career, employed or retired. We know that volunteering a small amount of time can make a big difference in someones life.

Volunteer onboarding process and requirements
- Application: Submit a completed application to the campus of your choice (North or Princes' Bay), including two letters of recommendation. All applicants will be contacted promptly after by the volunteer team. Please note: You need a valid Social Security number for your application to be reviewed. Completing an application does not guarantee your acceptance into the program.
- Forms needed in your application: Media consent form, background investigation (must be submitted regardless of age) and a medical clearance form. Phone interview: Applicants are reviewed and considered based on assessed skills, interests, level of demonstrated commitment and the availability of volunteer positions. Please note some programs require a second interview with your designated supervisor. If accepted, there is a six-month probationary period.
- Orientation: Offered in person and virtually (once application is approved and volunteer is medically cleared).
- Finalization: Upon completion of all the above, volunteer will come into the office and receive their badge, T-shirt, and assignment.
- 100-hour requirement:Volunteers must complete a minimum of 100 hours of service with a minimum four hours of service per week. However, the number of hours may be subject to change depending on the needs of the department.
