2026 Student Volunteer Program Application: Summer Session

Thank you for your interest in Northern Westchester Hospital's Student Volunteer Program, designed for high school, college and gap year students.

Participating students will gain experience in the hospital environment and the practice of person-centered healthcare.

Please read carefully before proceeding:

• Age restrictions: This program is for students in high school, college, or in a gap year. Volunteers must be at least 16 years old; you may apply if you will turn 16 by the time you begin volunteering. The only exception is Music Performance, for which volunteers must be at least 14 years old.
• Time commitment: Students are expected to commit to 40 hours by the end of August 2026.
• Timeline:
  • Updates: We receive a high volume of applications, so please be patient as we strive to give each candidate the thoughtful consideration they deserve. You will receive periodic updates on the status of your application, and all candidates will receive a final decision.
  • Interviews: Following the application review, select candidates will be invited for a virtual interview.
  • Start date: Your start date is contingent on your medical clearance and the completion of onboarding paperwork.
• Shadowing: This program is not an opportunity to observe clinicians and physicians. Please visit our website to learn about shadowing opportunities.

Please be advised:

• A relationship to a Northwell employee is not a guarantee of interview or admission into this program.
• Volunteers are required to adhere to Northwell's medical clearance standards, which include documentation of full vaccination records, flu vaccination or a signed declination form, an annual 2 step PPD test or blood assay (screening test for Tuberculosis). Any student who does not meet these requirements and/or will not consent to medical clearance cannot be accepted into the program.
