Senior Experience Program at Northern Westchester Hospital
This program is for high school seniors who are participating in an end-of-year internship as a requirement of their school district. In this program, students are placed at Northern Westchester Hospital and engage in the following:
- Gain insight into the world of healthcare
- Observe clinical and non-clinical staff members in their normal workday duties
- Attend lectures to enhance their education
- Engage in group projects to improve the patient experience

Ideal Candidate: This program is designed for students with a passion for healthcare who are seeking a professional, hands-on experience.
Eligibility & Selection:
- Only two students will be selected per school district.
- To be eligible for this program, you must attend one of the following high schools:
- Byram Hills High School
- Fox Lane High School
- Horace Greeley High School
- John Jay Katonah-Lewisboro High School
- North Salem High School
- Pleasantville High School
- Somers High School
Application & Selection Considerations:
- A relationship to a Northwell employee, or current/former volunteer/work experience at Northwell, will not be taken into consideration for interview selection or admission into this program.
- Select candidates will be invited for an interview over Zoom.
Mandatory Medical Clearance for Acceptance:
To be accepted into the program, students are required to adhere to Northwell Healths medical clearance standards for volunteers. This includes documentation of:
- Full vaccination records.
- Flu vaccination, or a signed declination form which requires continuous mask-wearing at all times.
- An annual 2-step PPD test or blood assay (screening test for tuberculosis).
Non-Compliance: Any student who does not meet these medical requirements and/or will not consent to medical clearance cannot be accepted into the program.
Program Schedule & Expectations:
- On-Site Days (Monday - Thursday): Expect to be on-site typically between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM.
- Early Morning Requirement: Participants are expected to be available for early morning experiences.
- Fridays: These days are dedicated to either at-home project-based work or on-site supportive program shifts volunteering with our patients and staff.
- Schedule Determination: Specific daily schedules and rotations are determined based on staff availability and school district hourly requirements.
- Rotation Assignments: Students will not have the option to choose their rotations.
- This is an unpaid program: Students will not receive compensation for their participation.
