We have volunteers of varying ages and life experienceall offering their time and energy to make a positive impact on others' lives. Many volunteers say they serve because they want to make a differenceand that is the greatest reward.
Whether you're a teenager, a homemaker, or an employed or retired adult, volunteering at Huntington Hospital makes you an essential part of the care team. Your efforts help maintain our commitment to excellence, while giving you the personal satisfaction of aiding those in need. The hospital strives to provide flexible scheduling for volunteers.
Your service brings a crucial element to health carelove and concern for people. It enhances service quality and eases the workload, giving the professional staff more time to care for patients. As a Huntington Hospital volunteer, you play a key role in fostering an atmosphere of friendliness and goodwill.
Volunteering requirements
We seek dedicated volunteers who want to make a positive impact on our patients' lives. If you are caring and compassionate, you can use your talents and skills to create meaningful experiences and gain valuable insights into the health care industry.
- The minimum age to volunteer is 14.
- Thank you for your interest in our junior volunteer program (ages 14-17). Due to an extensive waitlist, were currently pausing new applications.
- There is a 100-hour commitment per calendar year.
- Volunteers must be professional, courteous, compassionate and respectful.
- Applicants must be interviewed.
- All applicants must attend a mandatory volunteer online orientation and receive medical clearance. Volunteers 18 years of age and older must complete and clear a background screening before they can begin their assignment.
Note: Applications for volunteering solely for the summer months will be accepted from March through April, the summer before volunteering. All applicants will be expected to volunteer two 4-hour shifts weekly.

Emergency Department Ambassador Program
The Emergency Department Ambassador Program provides comfort and communication to patients and families in our emergency room and assists with basic tasks to help clinicians.
Family Caregiver Coach Program
The Family Caregiver Coach Program provides emotional support and necessary resources to those who care for loved ones at home.
Patient Unit Volunteer Program
The Patient Unit Volunteer Program provides comfort and companionship to patients during their hospital stay. Tasks include making rounds, collecting meal trays, organizing supply closets and creating quiet kits for bedtime. Open to volunteers 14 or older.
Ambulatory Surgery Unit Volunteer Program
The Ambulatory Surgery Unit Volunteer Program provides support to the surgical team as needed. Tasks include labeling charts, stocking the unit and transporting discharged patients.
Food Service Ambassador Program
The Food Service Ambassador Program provides hospitality and hands-on experience in delivering meals to our patients. Open to volunteers 14 or older.
Hospitality Attendant Program
The Hospitality Attendant Program provides patients and visitors guidance to their desired location, while brightening their day in the process. Additional responsibilities include assisting the front desk team as needed. Open to volunteers 14 or older.
Northwell Family Health Center at Huntington Program
The Northwell Family Health Center at Huntington Program makes an impact on both our community and our patients. Tasks include navigating patients through their visit and assisting with administrative tasks. Bilingual skills are required.
